tips for sticking to your diet.

Hi loves!
Hope you're having the best weekend!
We've been doing all kinds of house chores and getting settled into our new home.
However I have to admit, we have been treating ourselves to the beach in the afternoons to balance out our work!
It's soooo nice being on the coast!
And speaking of nice things- this outfit is now my favorite poolside or beach side cover up!
I got it from Sunshine Girls Boutique and just adore it.
It's lightweight, has a fun cut out and is so much fun to pair with a swim suit.

Today I wanted to share my ten easy tips that help me stay on track with my exercise and macros!
I'm not going to lie- May has been a super tough month, with Zak leaving and the move-
but I've tried my hardest to stay active and eat as healthily as I can!
And when times get crazy and routines are outta wack these are some tools that keep me on track.
I needed a fresh start today too- I've been eating out wayyyy too much.
So I needed to read this just as much as anyone else.
Okay here it goes!

1. Plan man! I use My Fitness Pal- which is a free app to track all of my nutrition. You can look up restaurants, scan bar codes and have "frequent or favorite" foods saved to make tracking easy. I love it so much! I plan my meals the night before so I know what I'm eating, that way I'm not struggling at the end of the night when we go out for say pizza. If yah fail to plan, then plan to fail! Okay, that was harsh- but kinda true.

2. Find a fitness plan you actually enjoy. Whether it's walking your dog, lifting weights or taking a class. Find what you love and get started. That'll keep you motivated in the beginning to just get yah to the gym- and then once time passes you can start trying new things out. I personally like scheduling my cardio times when the new Fixer Upper is on- makes me wanna do a whole hour!

PS isn't this pattern so fun?!
I'm loving the boho style- I feel like I fit in perfectly with San Diego!
3. Water! I try to drink a bottle before and after each meal. It not only is good for yah, but can reduce hunger as well. Drink, drink drink!

4. Gum! I always have a pack of sugar free gum with me wherever I go! That way when I just want something sweet or a snack- I pop in a piece and it gives me that satisfaction without over eating.

5. Magical food called eggs. Eggs are your BFF. These babies are carb free, high in protein and can be made 2981092381 different ways! My new favorite are poached eggs!

6. Consistency- when it comes to eating I try and eat the same breakfast and lunch everyday to keep things easy. I know what I like and what the macros are so then I keep those meals the same and can try something new for dinner- for example if we go out to eat. This just helps me with the budget, macros and routine.

7. Don't be afraid to eat out! Just look up the menu beforehand and plug in the nutrition facts. If the facts aren't listed- just search the food data base on My Fitness Pal for something similar like, "avocado veggie patty with whole wheat bun." If you don't find it in My Fitness Pal, then look up a recipe for it online and plug in those numbers. If they're not perfect- that's okay! At least you're trying! Eating healthy doesn't mean depriving yourself and never eating out. My biggest tip is just to plug that meal in first, then build your day around it so it fits your macros.

8. Have support. Whether it's a gym buddy you meet each night, an online macro coach {for me it's Zak} or your boyfriend {or roommate or whoever}- you gotta have someone in your corner rooting for yah! Someone who holds you accountable, supports your goals and helps yah make it happen.

9. Go-to foods. Have your pantry always stocked with your basic macro friendly foods so you're not tempted to just get off plan or grab a burger. Here's a list of foods that I always have on hand! Schedule out grocery days each week so that you stick to your plan!

10. Give yourself Grace. If life is getting a little nuts and you take a break from the gym to just rest, that's okay! If you go over on your macros, that's okay! You should never feel guilty about what you eat, or the lack of exercise. That's not what a healthy lifestyle is about. With great macro and workout days, comes rest days and splurge days. Just do your best, and treat your body with love and respect.

You can read more of my tips here and info about what I eat here.

Hope these tips help yah!

spoiler: we moved to Cali.

Hi friends!
As some of you may know {I've only mentioned it 290809237438713 times} we made the big move to California this week!
Yep, it really happened!
We're now San Diegans!

And for those of you who are new around these parts I thought I'd just get yah up to speed on things!
Like why the heck did we move from Arizona?!
Why San Diego?!
I mean, why not San Diego?!
How long will we be here?!
Well....!
Long story short- Zak just graduated from Creighton University School of Medicine-
like he's technically Zakary Hambsch, M.D. or Dr. Zak cuz our last name is a tough-y!
CRAZY!!
I like to call him intern though, keep him grounded.
;)
JK anyone who knows Zak and I's relationship knows we're very very sarcastic!
I'm very proud of him and plus he doesn't like those fancy titles anyways.
So first let me give a little round of applause to my lover boy because this has been a longggggg time coming!
Oh just search my archives a bit and you'll read lots of Sid emo posts when we first moved to Nebraska for medical school or a million, "Zak's studying so.." sentences as well!
But he did it!
He's a doctor now!
But the training doesn't end there- it's now just the beginning of a whole new chapter for us-
residency!!
Which brings us back to San Diego!
Zak's going to be doing his pediatric residency program at Naval Medical Center San Diego!
And yep, that means he's in the Navy!
Another question I get asked a lot- are you guys a military family?
Yep you got it right!
Zak did a program where the military paid for his schooling and living throughout medical school and he in return will work for them for a few years {or longer if we want} after residency.
And that's a very general explanation- but easiest way to put it.
We love it so far- such a warm and welcoming community!
For now, we're only here for a year- then who knows!
We could move or stay put.
We always said we wanted to live in different places, ha and that we are doing!
We're currently living in North Park,
and you guys.
We've only been here a week and I'm OBSESSED!
I don't even know how we lucked out to live in this area.
We're two doors down from Balboa Park, we walk everywhere {which is something I've always wanted} and we're blocks away from some of the best shops and restaurants in SD!
Oh and not to mention Coronado Island is literally ten minutes from us-
we even timed it in the car!
I'm dying and can't get over that this is where we really live!
Like how?!
Coming from broke as a joke students for the past eight years-
this is DREAM come true!

And I thank The Lord each day for this new blessing and chapter we're on!
It's unbelievable really.
I have a full and happy heart.
All I need is my husband to get his butt here {yep we moved without him} so we can start this new journey called intern year!
Anywho!
Just wanted to pop in and give a little update now that my computer is set up and we're not living in a hotel anymore!
Feels good to be home!
Make sure and follow our daily adventures on my Instagram account here!

welcome to new york.

Hi sweets!
I'm so excited to share all of our fun pics from our trip to New York City!
We had an absolute blast and I have about 238203948203948 photos to show for it!
So buckle up and get ready because I'm breaking down our vacation into FOUR posts.
Yikes spikes.
I know that's a lot, but it's Manhattan with my loves, so it's worth it.
Zak and I have been before, and checked all of the big time tourist attractions off of our list like The Empire State Building, Statue of Liberty, etc.
So this time we just wanted to adventure around, walk the neighborhoods and just hop from park to park and let Liam explore.
It was perfect you guys.
We had the best trip EVER!
So without further adieu here is the first part of our trip!

Each morning we would seek out the closest coffee shop, and then b line it for a park to let Liam play!
The playgrounds in the city are unreal!
Zak and I kept saying, "it would be so cool to work for the NYC parks department! I mean, Leslie Knope would have a field day!"
Any parks and recs fans out there?!
Anywho!
The boys would play, mama would have her breakfast and coffee and it was a wonderful way to start the day!

On this day in particular {I'm going all outta order just so you know} our goal was to explore the Upper West Side and Central Park.
AKA one of my fav days.
We started out on Riverside Park and walked down along the Hudson River- SO pretty!
Then we had to dip in to the UWS and have some dessert- because we were in NYC with some of the best ice cream spots-so duh!
We had to!
We tried out Emack and Bolio's and it was amazing!
The cones are insane- I tried the Fruity Pebble and Zak got chocolate with nuts-
So good you guys.
Worth it if you're in NYC!

Afterwards we snagged some Chipotle-
I was literally ordering while eating an ice cream cone..... no shame.
We ate Chipotle like a million times because it was always empty, plenty of space for a stroller, endless Diet Coke and cheap.
When you're in a place filled with the best restaurants, no one wants Chipotle lol so it was a perfect spot for us and our crazy 1-year-old!
Hashtag parent hack.
We got it to go and headed to Central Park!

Chipotle picnics and Central Park- doesn't get much better than that!
The trees were just starting to bloom- those Cherry Blossoms were gorg.

Poor Zak has still never seen the park when the trees are green-
he was a little disappointed to say the least.
But that just means we'll have to come back during summer.
:)

We walked around to the playgrounds, the Belvedere Castle, Bow Bridge {the boat line was PACKED or else we would've done it}, Sheep Meadow, the zoo, Strawberry Fields, The Mall, the Great Lawn and Bandshell,

After trucking around {we got in like 23,000 steps that day} we headed back to the Upper West Side and snagged some cheap, greasy, unhealthy, but heavenly slices of NYC pizza!
We sat and ate on the curb and and let Liam people watch.
He would wave and flirt at everyone who passed by.
And would call out "dog!" each time a pup popped up.
People watching and seeing all the fancy city dogs and owners was fun- and entertaining for Liam!

PS NYC also has the cutest sidewalks.
I always found little gems like this walking around.

We then happened to stumble by Milk Bar Bakery!
And hello I had to swing in!
I tried the b'day soft serve with Sprinkles {delicious} and a compost cookie {not my fav, yet Zak really liked it}!
He was such a good sport.
The whole time he would say lets go wherever you want!
So any random mural, ice cream shop and pink brownstone was fair game!
He knows I love that stuff, and I love that he is always patient and goes with my crazy plans!

We wound our way back through Central Park to get to our airbnb and caught the prettiest sunset at dusk.
This was one of my fav days.
These two just make my heart so happy.

This day was one for the books!
The sun was finally out, it was packed with treat, we explored the great Central Park and Zak and I even snuck in an ice cream date.
Can't wait to show you the rest of our trip!
Watch out for the other 232098 posts.
JK, kinda.

Have a lovely day!

Chicago is so much fun and the perfect place to explore and eat with your gal pals.
It was a jam packed two days!
We didn't hold back one bit!
If we wanted to see a Broadway show {or two} we did!
If we wanted dessert at midnight- we got it!
And if we wanted some cute clothes- we went shopping!
It was our we survived medical school so we deserve this trip-
and man did we milk it!!

We...

- walked around Navy Pier
- went shopping on Magnificent Mile
- ate Chicago style deep dish pizza
- saw a late night showing of Beauty and The Best in a fancy theater

It was a whirlwind of fun!
And I'm forever grateful for these ladies.
Life time friends, I tell yah!
Now onto residency we go!
Instead of med school husbands we now have..

Woot woot they did!
And so did we!

Have a great day friends!
