things you didn't know.

Well it's my day off (no Monday blues here) so I'm doing some random blogging throughout the day.
I thought it'd be fun to post a list of things you probably don't know about Zak and I.
I don't know why, I'm just in one of those moods.
And it's like 10 degrees out so Romie and I are stuck inside.
Blah.
But here goes our little list!

And I don't know why I chose this picture, it's really random and I like it.

1. I failed my first driving test. (I quickly got two tickets back to back after I finally got a license so it's probably a good thing they made me take it twice.. whoops).
2. Zak can fall asleep literally anywhere. And within seconds. Like a deep sleep instantly. It always makes me so jealous!
3. My favorite restaurant is Pita Jungle in AZ. I miss it SO much.
4. Zak is the king of movies. His collection is enormous! And we both can't wait for the Oscar Awards.
5. I stopped eating red meat in high school. It was a NYE resolution that just stuck forever. One day I want to go full vegetarian.
6. We both want a theatre and library in our dream home one day (who doesn't?!).
7. We watch reruns of The Office over and over again. My favorite person is Dwight. His (he has two) are Jim and Pam.
8. We once tried CrossFit…
9. The first time I met Zak he had a mohawk.
10. I bite my nails, therefore they're never painted- if they are it's for a special occasion.
11. Even though I'm a journalist, he's better at spelling.
12. 12 is his favorite number.

grammy's.

Did you guys watch the Grammy's last night?!
I was working, but we had it on in the newsroom and then I caught the second half when I got home-
so I got to see tidbits throughout the show.
One of my favorite things is seeing the red carpet fashion. It's always fun to see what celebs are wearing (good and bad). I think my two absolute favorites were..

Taylor Swift- I adore how she didn't show a ton of skin but still looks flawless in this gorgeous gown.
And then I saw Miranda Lambert who looks amazing! Not that she didn't before (I've always been a fan of hers), but last night she looked like a model!

And then there was Beyonce.
I mean, she never fails to impress on the red carpet- and last night was no exception.

And did you guys see her and her hubby's performance. I know it was a little risqué- but they're MARRIED! I seriously loved it. I feel like marriage gets labeled "boring" way too often (which by the way is completely false) and they just threw that stereotype right out of the window. Thanks Mr. & Mrs. Carter for reminding the world marriage is fun and flirty!

Have a lovely Monday!

january.

This month is almost gone! Holy cow.
I feel like it was just NYE and now it's long gone.
So my resolutions are going.. lets just say going.
No Diet Coke, check. (day 23)
Working out, meh. (I WILL workout today though)
Eating clean, check. (I re-worked my diet and I'm calorie counting now)
Being brave, check. (Not too many mess ups lately- thank goodness)

So yeah.
I think the biggest improvement I need to make is working out more. I'm pretty strict about what I eat- Zak and I haven't eaten out one this month- but then when it comes to working out I always seem to find a nice little excuse. Anyone else have this problem, or is it just me?

But today that has to end. I AM GOING TO THE STUPID GYM. There, now that it's typed out in all caps I have to hold myself accountable.

But anywho, life's been going good. I'm working a bunch and Zak is back studying a ton. We're kinda on opposite schedules this week, which is a bummer.
But it is what it is.

We've been cooking more, having lots of game nights with our friends and trying to save as much money as possible- not too exciting, I know. But hey, we want to go on some vacations this year so we're being extra good about spending.

Like for instance I just booked my flight to AZ for my best friends bridal shower- woot woot! February 27th can't come soon enough. Like really. I get to see my family, my best friend and it'll be WARM. Hallelujah.
It's currently 7 degrees outside..
so AZ sunshine sounds beyond amazing right about now.

Just wanted to check in and let yah know how my 2014 goals are going, and a little update on life as we know it.

Have a lovely day!

PS these are just two of the places we want to go this summer!

resolutions.

Hello 2014!

So I made some resolutions this year..
And I really want to stick to them.
So far I'm a week in and doing pretty good.. but then again it's only been a week..
so we'll just have to wait and see how everything plays out.

Did you make any resolutions? Welp, here are a few of mine:

1. Eat Clean- this past week I meal prepped 6 small meals a day which consisted of chicken, rice, veggies and egg whites and tons of water. It's day nine and I could literally be fine not eating chicken ever again in my life. Do see where this is headed? So tonight I'm re-working my "clean eating" menu.. b/c this isn't going to last much longer. But I do have to admit- it has been working! Just not too yummy.

2. Work out more. Yeah.. this has gotten to a slow start. I've wanted to change up my workout routine but haven't found out how yet.  I really like what the ladies over at toneitup.com are doing, so I think I'm going to try that tomorrow.

3. Be brave. Yep like the catchy Sara Barellis song. This especially has to do with my work life. Sometimes I get so nervous/intimidated/worried being the newbie. My goal is to take a deep breath, focus, {be brave} and just do my job and do it well.

4. Oh and quit drinking Diet Coke- water only for this girl. Not going to lie, I miss it already.

Zak and I made some "married resolutions" as well, which I'm excited about. Printing pictures & shooting more videos are a couple of our goals.

count down.

Happy New Years Everyone!
Hope you had a lovely {and safe} holiday.
If you haven't noticed Zak and I are total home bodies.. and we always stay in on NYE.
It's just our thing, and I know it sounds so cheesy but we like to reflect over the past year.

Last NYE Zak and I started a new tradition for 2013.
Each time anything good happened, whether it was accomplishing a goal, a funny story, special moment or silly occasion we'd write it down, date it and put it in a jar (without telling each other what it said). Then once NYE 2013 rolled around we'd read them all.

Well our New Years Eve was like a second Christmas for us. We read through them all as we counted down to midnight. It was so sweet reading each others notes and reflecting on the year.
Sometimes we forget about the little thing in life and small moments that made the year great. We're both very happy we started this tradition and highly recommend it!

Here are some of our favorites!

first christmas.

Our first Christmas was so sweet.
And not because of presents. To be honest, we didn't do presents for each other this year. Instead we wanted to just spend time together doing things. And I am so happy we chose to do it this way. Zak showed me what Christmas should really be about.
Spending time with loved ones.

I mean, obviously getting presents is a lot of fun, and I mean who doesn't want a new Kate Spade wallet or new Nike's for the gym? But for us, spending quality time together was the best present of all. He was on break from school, and I had a few days off- and the weather was outrageously warm so we spent as much time outdoors as we could.
We were in our own little worry free world for about four days.. we both agreed it was the best four days we've had since moving here-
hands down.

I married so good.
Really. He can make me laugh forever, we have the best time doing nothing and I love our little adventures together. We needed this time.
We needed to date and not worry about life for a little while.

We..
walked over water
were in two states at once
ate a fancy seafood dinner
ice skated on an outdoor rink
saw four movies {American Hustle, Saving Mr. Banks, Secret Life of Walter Mitty and Wolf on Wall Street}
had a picnic in the park
cuddled a lot
took Romie on a few walks
ate out too many times
sat front row at the Narnia the play
and fell in love even more than I could have ever imagined.

Our first Christmas Card!

pop.

Hola blog!
Sorry for the neglect lately. December came and gone in what seems like an hour. Last time we chatted I was anxiously waiting for pop's flight to land- and that feels like forever ago.
So lets recap, shall we?

Zak left for his trip to Arizona {I had to work or else I would've tagged along} and my pop came to visit me! It was such a sweet time.
We hadn't seen each other in months and I just loved showing him around.

We..
went on lots of walks with Romie in the snow
window shopped downtown
drank hot chocolate and snacked on treats
ate oysters {my first time}
saw Anchor Man 2 {nay} in a luxury theatre {yay}
looked at all the Christmas lights
opened presents
took a tour around the FOX42 newsroom
laughed a ton
talked a lot
and cried when we had to say our goodbyes.

My dad is one of my best friends, and I constantly miss him. I'm very grateful he was able to come to Omaha so we could spend some time together before the holiday.

love you pop.
