home tour.

Hello!

Since we're moving out of our very first home soon, 

I wanted to snap some photos for keep sakes. 

We joke around that our 850 square foot home is.. eh.

 And day dream about a charming house, on a tree-lined street with a library, shutters, big backyard and welcoming neighbors {the list could go on and on and on}.

But really, this place has been where we started our little life together.

It's where we danced in the kitchen, put up our first Christmas tree, burned dinners, had movie marathons and became puppy parents.

We move in a few short weeks so the packing begins, now. 

But before I start searching for boxes and packers tape, I wanted do a little home tour- something we can always look back on.

So, here's our first apartment in Midtown, Omaha. 

PS most of our furniture is either antique finds, wedding gifts or on-sale bargins. 

Or my parents, from the 80's. 

Or even Goodwill.

Thank goodness mom is the queen of refurbishing furniture, because I couldn't have done any of it.

I'll miss being the #1 unit.

If that basket looks familiar, it's because it's from our engagement photo shoot. And that 1970's suitcase was a $4 find.

PS that kinda felt like MTV cribs. Minus the mansion. And fancy cars. And pool. And cool fridge shot. 

spring has sprung.

It's green again in Omaha, hallelujah!

I've been waiting for this time.. oh pretty much since we moved here in August. 

These 70 degrees and sunny temperatures are dreamy. 

However, the tornados are not. 

I never realized we moved to tornado territory till last week when I was assigned to chase one. 

It was like the movie Twister, seriously. 

We took shelter in a gas station drink cooler, that's how real it was. 

The eerie sound of the tornado sirens ringing is one I'll never forget! I'm so thankful not one person was injured, such a rare thing when nearly eleven touched down in our state. 

I saw homes that were ripped apart, and families scrambling to start over from scratch. It was heartbreaking that one storm could tear everything you have down to shreds. 

One thing I learned from those families were that stuff is just stuff, you can always buy more, but you can't get back the people (and animals) you love. 

I hope that is the first and last tornado I have to chase this season. 

Anywho, on a higher note it's spring, and it's truly showing. 

We love taking Romie for a walk and seeing all the beautiful colors, it's gorgeous.

Another great thing that spring brings (see that rhyme there) are the farmers markets. 

They. are. the. best. 

The atmosphere alone just makes yah smile. 

Oh and on an even higher than high note-

ZAK IS FINISHED WITH HIS FIRST YEAR OF MEDICAL SCHOOL!

Time is flying isn't it?! 

I'm so proud of him. He really knocked it out of the park this semester and did such a wonderful job. 

A spectacular, amazing job. 

He is going to make a fantastic doctor. 

And he's only three years away from accomplishing that now!

Crazy. 

We celebrated with five other couples by going out for pizza and then ended the night with desserts and games. 

We tend to go a little overboard with food when we're all together. 

For instance, we ordered six large pizzas and only two slices went uneaten. 

Then, for dessert the boys decided to do a "state fair" type theme and deep fried everything from s'mores to cheesecake bites and even Reese's Peanut Butter Cups.

We're such a healthy group of people. 

The rest of our weekend was mostly running errands, watching Lost marathons (has anyone else watched this crazy show?! I'm hooked), more walks with Romie and taking it easy. We have lots coming up this month- we go to Chicago next week and then move out of our apartment!

We can't wait.

This was taken by other storm chasers of the same one we were following. 

These two photos I took of the inside of a home that was hit by one of the tornados. 

The entire roof was blown off and all the white stuff is the installation. They have to tear down the house and rebuild.

I took this as we were heading out to chase- I guess these are the clouds (can't remember the exact type) that come before tornados, they were so creepy. 

Lincoln

Well our Saturday started off like any other. 

Zak was studying at school before I was even awake and I took Rom to the park for a good walk. 

Zak got home around 1 and I knew that he needed a little nap before we did anything,

but while we were planning out our day, we decided ditch the nap, lets go to Lincoln for the afternoon. We've never been, and figure we need to go see our states Capitol sometime!

So we packed up the car and headed south. 

We have a list of cities we want to visit this summer- and we finally got to cross of Lincoln! 

While driving there we looked up things to do and saw that the State Capitol was one of the top things, so that was our first stop. 

It. Was. Beautiful. 

Totally put Arizona's to shame!

It was like walking inside a Cathedral, really. 

We took the tour and got to see the Supreme Court Room, the old House of Reps meeting hall and leaned all about the architecture. 

Oh and we leaned that if you go to the 14th floor, there is a lookout deck, which was really cool.

You could see for miles!

Afterwards our lovely camera died {note to self, always have the camera charged and ready to go for spontaneous days like this}, so we headed to the nearest Starbucks for a little re charge. 

We went back to the Capitol grounds, which were so green! And walked around the Governors mansion. 

I had some serious house envy. 

Then we drove through UNL's campus and I had to stop and check out the Alpha Phi house. 

It was darling!

It was white brick, complete with wooden shudders and ivy draped on the walls.

The girls saw me creeping with my camera and invited me inside for a tour- I couldn't say no!

It was just as beautiful on the inside. 

All of Greek row was just like a movie. The houses were gorgeous, people were walking around everywhere and music was playing in the streets. 

It was really cool.

It was getting pretty late so we headed to Pioneer Park for a picnic dinner lakeside.

With kept it classy with Subway sammys. 

Then headed back to good ole Omaha!

I really had THE best three days with Zak. I live for my days off with him. I love his sponaneity and yearn for travel. And that he's so patient with me, even when I take us 17 miles in the wrong direction. And instead of getting frustrated he just laughs. And then makes me laugh. 

I can't wait for this summer! He's only two tests away from being done with his first year- I can't believe it. Our goal is to go as many places as we can and see as many things as time permits because this might be one of the last summers he gets, ever.  

I've said it once, and I'll say it again- being married to your best friend is the greatest blessing.

Oh and I made another little video of our trip. Nothing fancy, especially since our camera died so quick.

Easter 2014.

What a happy day! 

Because of Him I have the most amazing husband and such a lovely life, 

which I'm forever grateful for. 

Easter is such a wonderful day to reflect and remember what matters most in life. 

This year I actually had to work {sad face} so we didn't have time for many Easter activities. 

However when I got home late Sunday night I was surprised with the cutest Easter basket filled with fresh flowers and a sweet card. 

Inside there were directions to a scavenger hunt. 

What a fun and romantic husband, I have. 

So I went around the apartment and found my favorite treats!

Zak knows me so well. 

Lets just say I have a life's worth of Skinny Cow products now.

No complaints here!

Thanks babe for making my night special, you're the best. 

The next day we had time to celebrate together so we dyed some eggs, took Rom on a long walk to soak in spring time, baked some goodies, gave my man his Easter basket and had a game night with friends. 

It was an awesome Monday, and a great second Easter. 

Oh yeah, and I threw together a little film of our day. 

It's nothing fancy. Just something we can look back on someday of our first Easter.
